History[]
Heading into 2016, Krueger Broadcasting had new goals/objectives and the company wanted to focus on top 50 markets and because of this, Krueger attempted to acquire a station in Louisville as it is the 49th market. Krueger quickly began negotiating with Adelphia Communications to acquire ABC affiliate WKLO, however negotiations very quickly fell through. However, Krueger Broadcasting was determined to get a station in Louisville, so it went to plan B and built WOLL from scratch and it officially went on air at 12:01AM on January 2, 2016(it grabbed the Fox affilate from WCKL, then it became a WB affilate) and Krueger plans to launch a news operation for the station later this year. On June 24, 2016, WOLL was given to New World Communications. Shortly after, New World sold the station to Fox Television stations, making WOLL the first network-owned station in the market. It was sold to Galaxy Broadcasting on June 10, 2016. On Apr. 20, 2017, Galaxy sold WOLL to Tribune Broadcasting. On November 4, 2017, Tribune traded WOLL to Berfield/Willis Broadcast Corporation, owners of WKTL (channel 5) in exchange for WKCD, The CW affiliated station in Dayton, Ohio. The deal was finalized the same day.
