WFIW (channel 24) is a television station in Westboard, New Hampshire, United States, affiliated with Fox and owned by JD Broadcasting Properties alongside CBS affiliate WWNF (channel 48).
History[]
WFIW signed on the air on January 23, 1955, under the call sign WCBW. It was initially affiliated with CBS and served as the local CBS affiliate in the Westboard area. As a locally owned station, WCBW became a trusted source of news, entertainment, and community programming for the region.
In the 1970s, recognizing the changing landscape of the broadcasting industry, WCBW's ownership sought new opportunities for growth and expansion. In a strategic move, the Meredith Corporation, a prominent media conglomerate, acquired WCBW, marking a significant turning point in the station's history.
Under Meredith's ownership, WCBW underwent various improvements and innovations. The station expanded its programming lineup, enhanced its technical capabilities, and further solidified its position as a leading broadcaster in the Westboard area. Throughout the years, WCBW built a strong relationship with the local community, delivering quality content and reliable news coverage.
However, in 1995, the broadcasting industry experienced a significant shift when WCBW decided to switch its affiliation from CBS to the emerging Fox network. Recognizing the potential for growth and success with this new partnership, WCBW rebranded as WFIW to reflect its new network affiliation.
Shortly after the switch to Fox, WFIW was acquired by the Sinclair Broadcast Group, a major player in the broadcasting industry. Sinclair's acquisition aimed to expand its portfolio of stations and capitalize on the station's success in the local market.
Under Sinclair's ownership, WFIW continued to flourish, maintaining its reputation for delivering high-quality content and reliable news coverage. The station retained its connection with the Westboard community and provided a platform for local voices and stories.
Finally, in 2023, JD Broadcasting Properties, a rising media company with a diverse range of broadcasting assets, acquired WFIW from Sinclair Broadcast Group, making it a sister to CBS affiliate WWNF. This acquisition marked a new chapter for WFIW as it became part of a dynamic media organization known for its innovative approach to content creation and distribution.
As a member of the JD Broadcasting Properties family, WFIW looked forward to leveraging new opportunities, exploring emerging technologies, and continuing its legacy as a trusted source of entertainment and news for the Westboard community. The station remained an affiliate of the Fox network, offering a compelling mix of national and local programming.
