WBCV (channel 2) is a television station in Charlottesville, Virginia, United States, affiliated with ABC and is owned by Krueger Broadcasting.

History[]

What is now WBCV originally began in 1979 on analog UHF channel 64 with the call sign W64AO. The station was a low-powered station and became the area's default ABC affiliate. In 2004, W64AO moved to channel 2, gained the WBCV call letters.

In early-2005 after the purchase of WCYR Gray Television sold both stations to Island Television. On January 30, 2016, it was announced that Island Television, as well as Higgins Broadcasting, and Oakhurst Broadcasting, were merging into Adelphia Communications, and Adelphia took over as owner of the station. Adelphia then ended the duopoly, selling WCYR to Evans Communications. Since 2006, WBCV has been the official flagship of University of Virginia sports. Following the merger of Oakhurst Broadcasting, Higgins Broadcasting, and Island Television into Adelphia Communications and Adelphia absorbing the remaining stations, Adelphia decided to shift focus on the stations that are in the top 50 DMA market. The remaining stations spun off to their own ownership group named Young Broadcasting, taking its name from the former company before they merged in Media General. On March 28, 2017 it was sold to QTV Inc, making it one of the few big 4 affiliates owned by QTV.

Programming[]

In addition to running the ABC schedule, WBCV also airs syndicated programming, including Live with Kelly and Ryan, Family Feud, Jeopardy!, and Wheel of Fortune.
