KONA is a Fox affiliated station serving Honolulu, Hawaii, and its surrounding areas. Broadcasting on channel 25, KONA is owned and operated by Nexstar Broadcast Group. KONA also operates a subchannel: 25.2 (for Seven Network). On September 10, 2010, KONA became the third station in Hawaii to broadcast local news in high definition. Following the merger of Oakhurst Broadcasting, Higgins Broadcasting, and Island Television into Adelphia Communications and Adelphia absorbing the remaining stations, Adelphia decided to shift focus on the stations that are in the top 50 DMA market. The remaining stations spun off to their own ownership group named Young Broadcasting, taking it's name from the former company before they merged in Media General. It was sold to Fox Television Stations on March 28, 2017, making KONA the first network O&O in the state of Hawaii. That did not last long, because Fox then sold the station to Nexstar.
