KCLR is Los Angeles's Colorband Television affiliate. It is the main Colorband affiliate, replacing KDSN in 1990. It is one of the best performing Colorband stations in California.
History[]
KCLR launched in 1960 as an independent station branded as "Clear TV", to fit with the KCLR abbreviation. The selling point was that it'd be a nice and clean TV channel that people who didn't want their kids to be exposed to the things other stations were showing. Of course, this meant it dealt exclusively in edited-for-content versions of the major network shows. It did well at the beginning, but in the middle of 1975, viewership started decreasing slowly. By 1983, KCLR looked close to closure.
Then an associate from Colorband came and said they could give them the rights to show their programs. The founder of KCLR said no, but later rescinded that same day. And so KCLR agreed to show Colorband programming at the same time as the other stations syndicating Colorband programming. Oddly rapidly, Colorband ended up taking over the channel that same year. They kicked the founder out, took out the Clear TV idea, and let them just keep doing their thing.
That is, until 1985. In February of that year, Operation Colorbrand was executed as a look on what a Colorband brand would look like. In June, they came back with a logo and KCLR was made to use it.
The news is something of high regard, too; they make sure to hire levelheaded people with different points of view and let them speak civilly about stories in the news in the show "Differing Views", which airs immediately after the KCLR News At Ten.
