KBCO is the Rainbow Dash Network station serving Brighton, Colorado. It broadcasts on channel 5 and is owned by Madison1996.

Station History

KBCO signed on the air on April 4, 1986 as an independent station and as the third station to sign on in Brighton, the station was originally locally owned by Brighton Telecasters. When KBCO signed on the air, it aired a mix of syndicated sitcoms, children's programming, religious programs and movies. In October 1986, when FOX began on-air operations, KBCO was chosen as a charter affiliate for the Brighton area and for areas northeast of Denver. In 1989, the station was sold to Brandt Communications before once again selling it to Raycom Media in 1997. In early 2011, Madison1996 purchased KBCO and it's assets from KBCO's original owner, Raycom Media. The purchase caused KBCO to switch affiliations from FOX, which it has been affiliated with for 25 years, to the newly formed Rainbow Dash Network. For most of it's history, KBCO has opted not to form air newscasts or start up a news operation due in part to it's close proximity to Denver and the Denver broadcast area. However, as part of a plan to air newscasts on all RDN stations, KBCO started airing newscasts at 9 pm every night and has started a news operation titled, 5 Alive News. KBCO was one of many stations not affected by the 2015 fictional tv station realignment.
