Freenity (originally known as Freemont from January 7, 2002, to January 1, 2023) is an American commercial broadcast television network owned and operated by GloboRB, a subsidiary of Trujillo, Inc. The network serves as the flagship property of the Freenity Stations Group division. Launched in January 2002 as a successor to the ill-fated National Entertainment Network, the network is primarily aimed to the adult audience, ages 18 to 49. Freenity is headquartered in Downtown Houston, Texas, in the Wells Fargo Plaza, also known as the RB Center.
Since its launch as Freemont, the network was known for adjusting and readjusting the target audience, starting off with adults ages 18–34, until broadening to 18-54 in 2006. In 2013, as part of its first major revision, Freemont readjusted the target audience to the 25-54 age range, until its 2020 revision, where the network reverted to its 18-34 target audience. Following its 2023 rebranding, the network now targets the 18 to 49 age range.
History of Freemont (2000-2023)[]
Freenity's foundations were laid in August 2000 when RB Media, NBC, and Stratus Communications announced revision plans for the National Entertainment Network. These plans included the shift of its target audience from the 25-49 to 18-34 age demographic, in hopes of competing with The WB and the United Paramount Network (UPN) and retiring the NEN brand for a "young and modern name" (according to RB Media co-founder Wilmer Rodriguez).
More details would emerge in 2001 when both companies officially announced the network's new branding as "Freemont".
"We want the young audience to feel 'cool' and free to be themselves. We chose the name "Freemont" because its sounds unique and appealing. It is misspelled however, but the youngsters will find it humorous." - RB Media co-founder Joshua Baughman.
Freemont launched on the night of January 7, 2002. The network was originally set to launch on October 1, 2001 (to coincide with the 51st birthday of RB Media co-founder Joshua Baughman), but the September 11th attacks pushed it to January of the following year.
On October 12, 2022, GloboRB announced the relaunch of Freemont. "Freenity", which is a combination of "Freemont" and "Infinity", made its debut on the morning of January 1, 2023, but its logo launched during the "Happy New Year '23" special programming on December 31, 2022.
