KQFE is a Fox-affiliated television station located in Eugene, Oregon. The station is owned by the Sinclair Broadcast Group division of the Cunningham Broadcasting.

History[]

The station first signed on the air on May 14, 1971 as an independent station. The station originally operated from studios located on Oak Street in Downtown Eugene. It maintained a general entertainment format featuring a mix of dramas, classic movies, cartoons and religious programming that the other stations in the market declined to air. The station suffered from low ratings throughout its run as an independent station, struggling to compete with other stations in the area.

The station fell into bankruptcy, the station shifted away from running classic sitcoms and cartoons, to run syndicated talk shows on their daytime schedules. KQFE was among a few stations to be an exception to this status: the daytime lineup continued to feature sitcoms well into the 1980s.

Fox Affiliation[]

In 1986, Tribune Broadcasting, signed an agreement with Fox to make KQFE the network's new Eugene affiliate. With the Fox affiliation agreement,KQFE's independent contract was rendered void. In turn, KQFE will move its independent programming to channel 27.
