Arlington Television Group (also known as ATG) was an American television broadcasting company based in Arlington, Texas, founded in 1965. Between 1986 to 2000, ATG owned and operated around 15 television stations in the United States, all of whom were independent stations. The company gained notoriety in the late 1980's and early 1990's for their aggressive programming, promotions strategy, and a favorable climate for independent stations nationally, making all of its stations highly profitable.
In 1994, the ATG stations adopted a local programming-infused format in which the station would have mixed locally produced programming, alongside first-run and off-network syndicated programs. This format spiked in popularity and viewership amongst the locals.
In 1997, ATG's financial status would decline after its purchase of the Dallas Mavericks NBA team, causing its shareholders to withdraw from the company. After selling the team in 1998, ATG's financial status wasn't the same as it was.
ATG filed for bankruptcy at the end of that year and began to auction off its entire television group. Clear Channel Communications planned to bid for the group but was outbid by RB Media in 1999. The purchase was finalized in 2000 and all stations maintained their independent statuses until 2003.
Television stations owned by ATG[]
As of 2024, almost all of the ATG stations continue to be owned by RB Media through its successor GloboRB.
