The 2023–24 network television schedule for the five major English-language commercial broadcast networks in the United States covers the prime time hours from September 2023 to August 2024. The schedule is followed by a list per network of returning series, new series, and series canceled after the 2022–23 television season. The schedule was affected by strikes undertaken by the Writers Guild of America (which began on May 2 and ended on September 27) and SAG-AFTRA (which began on July 14 and ended on November 9). Programming impacts on the 2023–24 season itself were limited in comparison to previous television seasons affected by Hollywood labor disputes.
CBS was the first to announce its fall schedule on May 10, 2023 via press release (and without an upfront presentation), followed by NBC on May 12, 2023 (with their upfront presentation at 11 a.m. Eastern Time on May 15), DuMont on May 15 (with their upfront presentation at 3 p.m. on May 15), both XYZ and ABC on May 16 (with XYZ's upfront presentation at 11 a.m., followed by ABC's upfront presentation at 4 p.m. that day), The WB on May 17 (with The WB's upfront presentation at 4 p.m.), The CW on May 18 (with their upfront presentation at 11 a.m. that day), UPN on May 19 (with their upfront presentation at 11 a.m. that day), Central on May 22, ABN on May 26 (with their upfront presentation at 11 a.m. that day) and RDN on May 31 (with their upfront presentation at 11 a.m. that day). For the second straight season, Fox announced its programming on May 15 via press release that morning (with their upfront presentation at 4 p.m. that day), but released its Sunday schedule (along with its release dates) on July 10, along with the rest of its prime-time schedule (along with their premiere dates) on July 11.
PBS is not included, as member television stations have local flexibility over most of their schedule and broadcast times for network shows may vary. Ion Television and MyNetworkTV are also not included since both networks' schedules feature syndicated reruns. The WB doesn't air programming on Saturday nights. UPN doesn't air programming on the weekends.
Impact of the 2023 Writers Guild of America and SAG-AFTRA strikes[]

On May 2, the Writers Guild of America went on strike, followed by SAG-AFTRA on July 13. The absence of working writers and actors through the summer has led scripted television production to shut down completely. The Writers Guild of America strike ended on September 27, while the SAG-AFTRA strike ended on November 9.
Network schedules were heavily altered in response to these strikes. The vast majority of new or returning live-action scripted series on the broadcast networks were not scheduled to premiere until, or have been delayed until, 2024. Reality television and game shows are slated to fill many gaps in programming, as SAG-AFTRA members are permitted to work on such productions during the strike.
However, the networks took slightly different strategies for parts of their schedules. In anticipation of the potential strikes, NBC delayed drama series Found, which was originally intended to air as a mid-season replacement in the 2022–23 season, to fall 2023, while also fast-tracking the production of other scripted series such as the second season of Quantum Leap and the premiere season of The Irrational.
CBS will repurpose series originally produced for sibling properties, including episodes of Yellowstone, which originally aired on the Paramount Network, SEAL Team, which originated on CBS before moving to Paramount+, FBI True, which was also produced for Paramount+, and NCIS: Sydney, an Australian spin-off of NCIS originally intended for sister property Network 10 and Paramount+ before being added to the CBS schedule as well. Episodes of Ghosts, the BBC series on which an American adaptation was based, have also been added to the CBS schedule.
ABC is slated to air additional sports coverage sourced from sister network ESPN. In the fall, ABC added ten Monday Night Football games which will be simulcasts with ESPN, on top of the seven simulcast or exclusive games previously scheduled. In January 2024, ABC will exclusively air five NBA games on consecutive Wednesday nights that were originally scheduled to air on ESPN.
While Fox is heavily relying on unscripted series from Monday through Thursday nights, its Friday night (WWE SmackDown) and weekend sports programming was not affected. Its Sunday night animation lineup was also unaffected due to the long lead times required to produce such series. The CW is likewise relying more on unscripted programming as well as international acquisitions, though network executives stated that this a long-term strategy shift following its acquisition by Nexstar rather than a specific reaction to the strike.
